Melanin Haircare Multi-Use Softening Leave-In Conditioner - A Review and Benefits

Hi Curl Friends! Have you missed me? I know it has been a while, but life with work, wife duties, and motherhood have kept me busy. The good news is that I finally had time to try a new product!! Woop woop! The bad news is that I broke my no new products fast because I HAD to try Melanin Haircare’s new Multi-Use Softening Leave-In Conditioner. And let me tell you, it was so worth it!If you need a reminder Melanin Haircare was founded by natural hair pioneer, and one of our favorite hair crushes, Whitney White (aka @naptural85). Mealnin’s signature product line debuted with the Multi-Use Elongating Twisting Cream and the Multi-Use Pure Oil Blend. Now, Melanin has completed the line with the Multi-Use Softening Leave-In Conditioner. I was excited to try the leave-in because the twisting cream and pure oil blend are staples within my product collection and routine. I find Melanin’s products to provide a ton of lasting moisture as well as a defined curl. I’ve never had a bad wash and go or twist out using Melanin Haircare products, so trying the new leave-in was a must. The purpose of this review is to share my experience with the new leave-in as well as educate you on the key ingredients so you can make informed choices when choosing the best products for YOUR hair. Okay, now lets get started!

What I Liked

Founder Whitney White says “it’s your new favorite conditioner” and I agree. What I love about the Multi-Use Softening Leave-In Conditioner is its powerhouse ingredients. Melanin’s formula is packed with some of the  most well-known ingredients for keeping hair moisturized, full of sheen, and also promotion of hair growth (see list and benefits below). I used the conditioner for a traditional wash and go, followed by Melanin’s Pure Oil Blend and Twisting Cream. Clearly, it was a Melanin takeover wash day. Here’s what I loved:

  • Its very light weight and has excellent slip

  • This is the perfect base layer for locking in water / moisture

  • I was able to detangle my hair easily, especially in the middle which is my driest area

  • There was no product build up, even after applying the twisting cream and oil

  • Post wash and go, I was able to go 7 days without refreshing with any products (when used with Melanin’s Twisting Cream and Pure Oil Blend)I love how the conditioner can be used as a traditional L-O-C (leave-in-oil-cream) or L-C-O (leave-in-cream-oil)

  • This can be used as a stand alone product

  • Comes in a 16oz size and little goes a LONG way

    What are the Key Ingredients?

  • ProVitamin B5 (Pathenol): Is a humectant that binds the hair follicles and coats and seals in moisture. Helps to prevent moisture loss and smooth the cuticle of each strand.

  • Bamboo Extract: Increases elasticity and strength of hair follicle while improving moisture and natural sheen. Bamboo contains Silica which has been shown to improve hair texture, accelerate hair growth, and prevent split ends.

  • Wheat Amino Acids and Hydrolyzed Wheat Proteins: Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein. Wheat Amino Acids are known for heat protection and anti-breakage properties to transform dull and lifeless hair.

  • Turnip Root Extract: Full of antioxidants that promote hair growth and a healthy scalp.

  • White Tea Leaf Extract: Rich in antioxidants that strengthen hairs, reduces falling out, and restores the scalp’s health.

  • Rosemary Leaf Extract: Not only used for cooking purposes; Rosemary Leaf Extract is said to stimulate hair growth or mitigate hair loss.

  • Hops Extract: Helps to heal and repair damage hair. Reported to help stimulate scalp circulation, promote growth, and also has antiseptic properties good for fighting dandruff.

  • Chamomile: Known for its soothing properties and is good for dry hair and scalp, scalp conditions, and curl friends with blonde highlights.

  • Aloe Vera: Makes hair more manageable, silkier, smoother, and overall healthier.

  • Argan Oil: Argan Oil has been used for centuries for its many benefits like providing hydration and softening properties. Also rich in antioxidants and fatty acids that improve hair elasticity.

  • Baobab Seed Oil: Baobab is known as the “Tree of Life” and produces an oil that penetrates deep into the hair follicles. Great for dandruff and itchy scalp, moisturizing dry hair and scalp, induces hair growth, and makes hair glossier with shine.

  • Jojoba Oil: The molecule structure closely resembles Sebum, the natural oil our scalp produces. Jojoba is great for encouraging hair growth, relieving symptoms of dandruff, and moisturizing.

  • Spearmint Leaf Oil: Its natural anti-fungal and antibacterial properties make it an effective treatment for scalp conditions. One of the biggest benefits is it stimulates hair follicles and increases blood flow.
